New HVAC Systems
Buying a New HVAC System
Here in Las Vegas, one of the biggest decisions faced by homeowners is if they should upgrade an older HVAC system or maintain the one they have. The answer depends on the age of your unit and its current efficiency. A qualified HVAC contractor in Las Vegas such as Service 1st Energy Solutions can check your system and give you advice on service versus replacement.
Your HVAC system may simply need service and cleaning to bring it up to full efficiency rather than a replacement system. If your HVAC unit is a newer model and working fine, but you feel your energy bills are too high, the problem may be in your duct work or insulation.
A free Energy Evaluation from Service 1st Energy Solutions can pinpoint exactly where the issue is. In fact, we won’t even sell you an HVAC system without first suggesting an evaluation. Our unique ability to provide the complete energy picture for your entire home lets us give you the best advice for your situation, rather than just pushing you into buying a unit you do not need. New HVAC System for Energy Efficiency
If it is time for a new air conditioner, heat pump, furnace or other HVAC system, your number one consideration should be energy efficiency. Did you know that air conditioners use about 5% of all the electricity produced in the United States at a cost of over $11 billion annually to homeowners? They also account for the release of 100 million tons of carbon dioxide annually — about two tons per home. If you make the switch to a high efficiency, Energy Star qualified unit you could reduce your personal energy use by 20 to 50%.
Lower Your Power Bill with a New HVAC System
Today’s systems are rated at a minimum of 13 SEER (Seasonable Energy Efficiency Ratio). Replacing an older 8 SEER unit with a very basic 13 SEER unit will yield significant savings in power consumption – about 30% of your annual operating cost. That’s a good start, but if you really want to save, pay a little more up front and shop for a mid-range 16 SEER unit. Over 10 years, a 16 SEER unit operating in Las Vegas will save over $7,000 in operating costs versus the same size 8 SEER unit. When you opt for a high efficiency unit at 23 SEER with 2-stage cooling, your yearly cost can drop from just over $1,100 to $400. (Source: HVACopcost.com)
Another reason to consider an upgrade for an aging system, even if it is still working, is that older units use ozone-damaging freon (which was phased out starting in 2009 models), whereas a new system uses R-410A refrigerant, which is much more friendly to our planet. The mid-range and high-efficiency units will also be better insulated against noise with more weather-resistant housings then the low end 13 SEER systems.
